Which one do you perfer either Recharing attacks or Recoil Attacks

Example of both verisons of attacks:

Elemental Hyper Beams:
- Roar Of Time (Dragon)
- Hydro Cannon (Water)
- Blast Burn (Fire)
- Frenzy Plant (Grass)
- Hyper Beam (Normal)
- Giga Impact (Normal)

Recoil attacks:
- Brave Bird (Flying)
- Double Edge (Normal)
- Head Smash (Rock) [Note: Damage 150, same as a hyperbeam move but a recoiling move]
- Take Down (Normal)
- Flare Blitz (Fire)
- Volt Tackle
- Psycho Boost

I personally have to go with Elemental HyperBeams attacks because even though you lose a turn of an attack, at least you don't take damage after the attack was launched and not to mention they deal 150 damage per launch of the attack.

*NOTE: I changed Recharging attack to Elemental HyperBeams.*

Recharge for me. I believe it goes away if you give the poke a "Power Herb" If you give it overheat or such, if you give it a "White Herb" then, the -Sp.Atk will be like it never happened.

I think Power Herb only works with charging moves like Solarbeam, Skull Bash, Sky Attack, etc.

And back on topic, I'd actually prefer recoil attacks.

Recoil moves deal damage to you, but a recharging move makes you vulnerable. So either way, you'll still take damage. But recharge is worse because your opponent can set up a combination (Dragon Dance, Swords Dance, Agility, or a Status/Support move) and crush your entire team.

A recoil move allows constant movement, and therefore gives your Pokemon more of a chance to sweep. A good example would be an Infernape choosing Flare Blitz over Blast Burn. If said Infernape used Blast Burn, although it still ko-ed the opponent, he is immobile and therefore vulnerable to be struck by one of it's many weaknesses.

Think of it this way, would you rather take a little damage (that could be healed with Leftovers or Shell Bell) from a recoil attack, or would you rather take heavy (perhaps fatal) damage from an attack that is strong against your Pokemon?

Sure recharging attacks are stronger, but as stated before, they leave you immobile, thus letting your opponent set up a strategy. And the extra power is minimal. There's no need to be greedy with your power. An attack that does 150 damage (Blast Burn) is only slightly better than one that does 120 damage (Flare Blitz). And both attacks would most likely be boosted by the Same-Type-Attack-Bonus (STAB) if used properly.

So all in all, competitively, recoil attacks are better. But when it comes to attack animation, recharging attacks got recoil attacks beat. Very Happy

Recoil. I don't like to wait a turn and they often don't take almost any HP at all.

I prefer recoil. I hate not being able to make a move. Recharge moves also slow the battle a bit as well. That's what I think Smile

That is true, however you can return that Pokemon back to its PokeBall and you can call something else out and let it recharge in its PokeBall and re-use that same Pokemon later on.

both if you set ur DS setting to Battle Scene "On" you should be able to return your Pokemon back to its PokeBall after you launched an Elemental HyperBeam. However the HyperBeam has to make it faint in order to let it return back to its PokeBall.

This is a video I made using my Palkia against GYM Leader Gardenia in Pokemon Platinum as an example

the video is now dead xD

I agree with Zero, I'd rather use a powerful attack and not miss a turn. I use Life Orb on my sweepers so I don't mind about recoil anyways.

Recoil moves deal a percent amount of damage, to the user, so if it does not do much damage you do not take much damage. The percent or fraction is like either 1/3 or 1/4 depending on the move 1/3 in most cases. Also, Recoil attacks are much more efficient that Recharge moves. Giving your opponent an extra turn is horrible. They could set up with either Entry Hazards, or Calm Mind, or Status inducing effects, which will turn out horribly for your pokes if combined with something like Sleep...that just stinks...In-Game, go all out with Recharge moves, yes it it possible to switch out after OHKOing like a Gym Leader's poke, and then switch into another Pokemon that will use a Recharge move and simply Recycle.
